Dental hygiene and care is one of the most important elements of the overall health of pets. In addition to regular visits to the Veterinarian and teeth brushing, the use of alternative or specialized treats and food products is very important to a pet’s well-being. Since it may be challenging to brush your dogs’s teeth daily and the cost of professional oral care treatments can be quite costly, specially designed dental care treats are a good complement to these healthy habits. A dry treat by its texture will bring a certain abrasive action on teeth, just like a brushing effect. In addition to this abrasive action, specific ingredients added to treats may help fight bad breath and improve oral health. The CHICKEN LIVER BREATH DENTAL COOKIES may help improve dental hygiene and freshen breath.

Growing up, Grandma Vickey’s chopped liver was the family favorite dish. Well, our amazing family dog Joy,  loved it, too—so she ate it all right off the holiday dinner table leaving nothing for anyone else! Still a favorite, now in cookie form to help improve dental hygiene.

KEY INGREDIENTS

Chicken liver (fresh cooked)

A source of highly digestible protein from fresh chicken livers, which offer very high nutritional value and contribute to great flavor. Chicken liver contains a very high amount of vitamin A and iron as well as a high level of lysine and appreciable methionine, vitamin C and zinc. It is also a source of high-quality fat, offering a good share of Omega-6 fatty acid and energy.

Spinach

Spinach is an annual edible flowering plant from the family Amaranthaceae originating from western Asia whose leaves are eaten as a vegetable. It is a very good source of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.

Parsley

Parsley is a popular herbaceous plant species of the family Apiaceae (genus Petroselinum) native from the central Mediterranean region known to fight bad breath while aiding digestion. It also could be beneficial for the immune system as a source of flavonoids while providing natural vitamin A, C and K to dogs. The extracts present in parsley serves as a natural breath freshener as it contain a good amount of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in most vegetables. This pigment uses photosynthesis to absorb the sun's rays. A chlorophyll molecule is often compared to the hemoglobin molecule in humans and animals blood. It has a double-action remedy for bad breath. First, as a deodorizer, it will eliminate odors in the mouth and throat, but also (and more importantly) it promotes a healthy digestive tract – which is the primary reason for bad breath. It also helps cleanse the bloodstream and the colon, where bad breath often begins.

Fennel seeds

These are a common remedy for bad breath because they help neutralize offensive odors and aid digestion. Eating the seeds also increases saliva that washes away bacteria from the mouth. Fennel oils have antibacterial properties as well, fighting the germs that cause bad breath.

Peppermint

Naturally growing in Europe and the Middle East, this hybrid plant (a cross between water mint and spearmint) is now cultivated in many regions around the world. The oil extracted from the leaves of flowering peppermint plants serves as an additive to flavor candies and other types of edible items, as well as providing some useful health benefits as it contains aromatic oil with menthol. Menthol is an organic compound obtained by extraction from the essential oil of peppermint or other essential oils of mint. The most well-known property of menthol is the freshness effect it generates. For this it contains components capable of stimulating the cold-reactive chemical receptors, which are located below the skin. This feeling of cold provides many virtues on the body, including decongestant benefits. In addition, the cold effect generated by menthol contributes to the improvement of muscle contraction. This compound is also very popular for its anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, menthol contains antibacterial and antiviral properties that are very effective against microbial germs. Its antioxidant benefits as well as its antispasmodic effects facilitate digestion. Finally, menthol is characterized by relaxing functions, and paradoxically, certain preparations of this compound are intended to stimulate and tone the body.

Eggs, whole

Source of highly digestible proteins from fresh eggs, offering a high level of fat as well. Eggs have the highest Biological Value of any protein source, with a 100 percent score as they contain all the essential amino acids (those that must be present in food as they cannot be produced at all or in sufficient quantities by the body to meet requirements), and elements necessary for the creation of an entire living being.

*Biological Value (B.V.) is defined as the relationship (%) between quantity of the nutrient (protein) absorbed and the amount used and held in the animal’s body. It is evaluated according to the amount of essential amino acids «E.A.A.» present versus the amount of nonessential amino acids «N.E.A.A.». The more E.A.A. present, the higher the B.V.

Eggs, whites

Source of highly digestible proteins from fresh eggs without fat (no yolk). Eggs have the highest Biological Value of any protein source, with a 100 percent score as they contain all the essential amino acids.

Coconut oil

This oil is extracted from coconut flesh, whose fat content is almost 35 percent, and contains a high level of healthy saturated fat (85 percent to 90 percent) in the form of essential fatty acids with medium chains, mainly lauric acid. This fatty acid, a triglyceride, can help boost metabolism and help vitality by providing an excellent level of energy. Thereby increasing tone and participating in the process of healing and resistance to disease, all by stimulating the synthesis of a hormone, pregnenolone. Coconut oil through lauric acid can also help maintain optimal digestive functions while helping to achieve a balanced blood sugar level by improving glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity.
